Unbranded | Red Dial Art Deco

A classic Swiss jumping hour from the 1970s.

This Art Deco piece features a striking vibrant red dial with two textured grey strips, enclosed in a rectangular chrome case. Time is displayed through a distinctive stylized bell-shaped aperture — a common feature on these vintage digital watches. The upper window shows the jumping hour disc, and the lower disc shows dragging minutes, framed by 'SWISS MADE' text. It is fitted with an aftermarket red textured leather strap.

Jumping hour watches, also known as 'digit die' or 'heure sautante', were popular in the 1920s and 1930s, often produced as unbranded or 'private label' items. This was a common practice among Swiss movement manufacturers who would supply complete watches to be retailed by department stores or jewelry shops. Running on a solid, reliable MST (Meyer & Stüdeli) caliber — a robust workhorse of its time — this example illustrates how movement makers enabled affordable versions of this complication.
