The 70s quartz crisis had traditional watchmakers sweating, giving us glorious, desperate mutants like this Sicura "Electric" - a classic mechanical jump hour trying its absolute hardest to imitate a high-tech digital watch by stuffing a literal battery-powered lightbulb inside. While most collectors know this quirky layout as the "Instalite" (a badge also worn by brands like Sutton and Hudson), this specific dial screams "ELECTRIC" to sound extra cutting-edge. The result is a delightfully chunky, strange-looking UFO for the wrist. But hey, unlike most other vintage jump hours in my watchbox, at least you can actually read this one in the dark! Until the battery dies at least, which happens quite fast...
