Why I bought it
A classic 1970s Lanco digital display watch. I liked the combination of the large gold-tone case, black dial and unusual asymmetric hour-and-minute display.
Lanco was a well-established Swiss manufacturer, and this Digital comes from the period when mechanical watchmakers were experimenting with ways of making watches look increasingly modern.
Instead of conventional hands, the time is read through an asymmetric display on the left side of the dial, with the jumping hour in its own window and the minutes shown on a rotating disc. The large gold-tone case and black dial give it a very typical 1970s appearance.
It is exactly the kind of watch I enjoy from this period: mechanical underneath, but designed to look like something from a new digital age.
